Power Assemblies attended several events in 2018. It was a busy trade show year for us, attending several events such as the
Governors Hurricane Conference from May 13 to the 18
th, the Affiliated Distributors meeting held in Grapevine Texas in October, and the CES show held in Las Vegas, Nevada in January.
Preparing for Hurricane Season in Florida
The 2018 governors Hurricane Conference was held in West Palm Beach Florida. The conference focuses on hurricane preparation, particularly in the southeastern states, and is attended by emergency services providers such as Government agencies, the National Weather Service, temporary power providers such as Caterpillar, Cummins and United Rentals, as well as suppliers of temporary power products like Power Assemblies. The conference contains best practice workshops that focus on hurricane preparedness and disaster recovery. Power Assemblies representatives worked closely with several agencies and temporary power providers during the conference to share their knowledge of products that could help restore power after a hurricane strikes. One product that proved to be particularly beneficial is Power Assemblies
Generator Docking Station, a unit that allows for fast and safe connection of a generator to the buildings emergency power distribution center. The Governors Hurricane Conference is an event we will be attending again in 2019.
Affiliated Distributors Annual Meeting
Power Assemblies joined Affiliated Distributors (AD) in July of 2018 as an official supplier to its hundred of members. AD is a buying group that bands together independent distributors for the purpose of providing the same leverage and buying power as the largest national chains such as Graybar, Consolidated Electrical Distributors and Sonepar. The conference was held in October at the Gaylord Texan Convention Center, an impressive hotel and convention center that rivals Las Vegas, without the smoke and less noise. During the conference, Power Assemblies representatives met with several distributor principals to discuss current product applications, service expectations, pricing and new product ideas. These meetings yielded several positive action items, such as the development of Power Assemblies own modular motor control center, and the addition of another inside sales representative, Rafael Ogando, to help reduce quotation times and improve order follow up.
Consumer Electronics Show
The Consumer Electronics Show, or CES, is one of the most widely attended trade shows in the world. It is a gathering place for the leaders in technology such as Apple, Microsoft as well as many up and coming startups. Power Assemblies prides itself in increasing efficiency through technology, so this was a great show to see present and future technological advances that might be used to improve products and customer service. During the show, the power was lost unexpectantly, which emphasized the need for a good temporary power system, which led to Power Assemblies consulting with several trade show providers such as Freeman, to discuss ways to prevent outages in the future. The outage also led to convention centers such as Caesars and the Las Vegas Convention Center to invest more heavily in back up power on future projects. Besides the tangential business opportunity of the outage, Power Assemblies employees came away with some great ideas on how to use technology to improve manufacturing processes and customer service.
As we head into the new year, we look forward to attending these shows again, as well as some new ones like the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) show in September held in Las Vegas.
